Self-portrait with Curly hair, Rembrandt van Rijn

Rembrandt was fascinated by the effects of light. This is also clear in his etchings, for instance in this self-portrait in which his face is half cast in the shadow.

The newest edition to our Rijksmuseum Playmobil collection has arrived! Vincent van Gogh's Self-portrait. Doesn't it look adorable? The set includes the grand master himself in a miniature version, but also includes an easel, painting brush and a paint palette. A fun way to teach the little ones about his masterpiece. This collectors-item is a must for all Playmobil- and van Gogh fans!

Self-portrait van Gogh

Van Gogh decided to move to Paris in 1886, after hearing from his brother Theo about the new, colourful French style of painting. He immediately starting experimenting with this new style in several self-portraits. He did mostly self-portraits to save costs by avoiding to pay models. In the winter of 1887-1888 he painted this self-portrait. Using striking colours and rhythmic brushes he painted himself as a fashionably dressed Parisian.
